Can An Insurance Agent Offering Takaful Business?

I am not that entirely sure to the notion that Takaful agent should be completely independent from conventional insurance on the pretend that Muslim Takaful agent must not involve in any activities that are inconsistent with Islamic Takaful, at least in current practice. It is noted that conventional insurance and other alike are not Islamically acceptable by majority (or probably all) of the IFIs Shariah Advisers. Not that I am saying that conventional insurance is permissible, but looking at the current business scenario, segregating these two businesses will definitely put a toll and strains on the agents considering the small size and avenues of Takaful business. Because of this, exemption should be given in order to give space for the agent to develop and built their business so that they are not left behind by their competitors in term of money and cents. الامر إذا ضاق اتسع. Perhaps until Takaful is at par with conventional insurance from the market share perspective then the ruling on the segregation will be practical and fair because it will then provide a same level of playing field to all Takaful operators and their agents. At the moment it seems some the Takaful operators allow mixing of Takaful and Insurance business while the others are not. It is therefore high time for the regulator i.e. Bank Negara Malaysia to issue some directive on this matter as it will provide a same ruling for all Takaful operators so that the agent are given an equal and fair business opportunities.
